Text Development

So you´re writing something. It can be big or small, specialized or general, personal or professional.

But whatever it is, you are not making the headway you were hoping to make.

Maybe you´re not entirely clear where the text wants you to go, or maybe you are sure of your destination but finding your main arguments lost among dead ends and asides.

What you need is someone who will aid you in developing your text.

I´ll find the hidden gems, and the natural gravity of the text. I can see where tweaking your structure can help you gain clarity in your writing, and what areas need more lines to read between.

It’s a rare treat for me to see a piece of art – and damn straight writing is an art form! – in such early stages, and it is terrifying to show something you know isn´t working yet to another person. That´s why text development is a gentle and enthusiastic process.

I’m not going to tell you how to write or what to write. I’m not going to take your project away from you and turn it into something you’re not going to recognise. It’s all about your ideas, your voice, your passion, your goal, and I will help you make it shine.

Why me?

I love a good story. And I see good stories in everything. I also have a quick and analytical brain that’s well-trained in cutting big, overwhelming problems into manageable questions.

In an in-person text development session, that means you do not have to worry about putting things in the right place or the right order – you just talk and I’ll sort, structure and clarify.

In an e-mail-based text development session, that means you just give me whatever you have already written down, including notes such as ‘something to fill this gap’ ‘falalaIdon’tknowwhatgoeshere!’ and ‘Umm, I knew I read something about this somewhere but I can’t for the life of me…’, and I’ll give you detailed comments in the text with questions, clarifications and scenarios. I’ll also write an accompanying e-mail with the strongest points of your text, where I think you text wants to be going and what you need to do to get there.

I’ve done this for all sorts of different people already, mostly for essays, reports or theses with a deadline behind them, but occasionally for a hobby project or creative writing piece. Loved it every time, and people came away with a lot more clarity, enthusiasm and confidence.

It’s impossible to estimate a price for text development based on the source text. Everyone wants help with a different aspect of writing: do you want to talk on the phone for an hour to discuss the biggest obstacles, or do you want me to do a complete inventory and restructuring of all the subjects and arguments in your text?

When you contact me to schedule text development, I will discuss your wishes with you and send you a price estimate before we start.

Next step

Talk to me through the contact form, or through e-mail. I’d love to hear all about your project and what you think you’re stuck on.

After we figure out together how you would like this to proceed – whether you want to meet in person, on the phone, or do it by e-mail, how many rounds of communication would suit you, and so on – I will send you an estimate.

Of course, there’s always room for projects with strict deadlines, and I will treat any information you give me with strict confidentiality.
